Today's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi delivered jaw-dropping moment after jaw-dropping moment, and it's 45 minutes of television that Star Wars fans won't soon forget. Understandably, Lucasfilm has decided to keep a tight lid on major spoilers with this first round of stills, but there are still some cool moments worth talking about.
We see Ben as he prepares to confront Darth Vader one last time (until A New Hope, of course), and the Jedi Master's exchange with Kumail Nanjiani's Haja Estree as the fake Jedi learns he's earned the trust of the great Obi-Wan.
Finally, there's an awesome shot of Queen Breha Organa (Simone Kessell) and Senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits). They played a small, but pivotal role in the series, and getting to spend more time with them has only made the eventual destruction of Alderaan all the more tragic.
In other news, Ewan McGregor recently appeared on The Jess Cagle Show and was asked why we haven't seen more Jedi in the series. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan and Yoda said goodbye to one another, but with the former insinuating he might play a role in connecting Ben with Qui-Gon Jinn, why was he nowhere to be found in Obi-Wan Kenobi?
"All he's got left is to look after Luke Skywalker. That's all he's got left, really, and to try to communicate with his old master, Qui-Gonn, in his spiritual life," the actor explained. "But he can't reach out to any of his old [mentors]. He can't reach out to Yoda, he can't reach out to any of the surviving Jedi for fear of giving himself away."
"If a Jedi uses the Force in this period of time, the Inquisitors are going to be able to sense that, and they're going to know where you are," McGregor said of Obi-Wan cutting himself off from the Force. "It's like using your phone or something, I guess [Laughs]. It'll ping off a tower somewhere if you use the Force."
We were never expecting to see Yoda in this series, but the actor's comments certainly help address a few minor questions fans have had about Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's hard to say whether Lucasfilm will ever explain what happened to Yoda during his time on Dagobah or why he lost his mind in the space of two decades, but we're sure the character will return at some point.
