Discussing Film is reporting that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts is heading to a Galaxy Far, Far Away to helm an episode of an upcoming, unannounced Star Wars TV series. Shooting is slated to begin this summer on "Grammar Rodeo," a project that's previously been described as taking place in the High Republic era and like "Stranger Things in space."
Aside from the fact The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett's Jon Favreau is executive producing, that's all we know right now.
Watts is only set to helm one instalment, though he's got a busy few months ahead after recently signing up to work on an Apple TV+ drama starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The filmmaker, who is hot off the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and its $1.8 billion haul, is also producing a new Final Destination movie and remains attached to Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot.
Lucasfilm has used comic books to shed some light on the High Republic era (a period that's hundreds of years before The Phantom Menace), while The Acolyte TV series will be set during its final days. It's hard to say how interested fans will be in exploring this time, but Watts boarding the series - even if it is for just one episode - is undeniably exciting.
If production really is beginning this summer, an official announcement should be coming soon. As always, we'll be sure to keep you updated, so make sure to check back here for the latest.
