We were all wondering what Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae's first big Hollywood role would be and, thanks to Deadline, we have an answer! Ahead of what could be a historic night for the actor at the Emmys, it's said that Jung-Jae is the latest addition to the cast of Star Wars: The Acolyte

Amandla Steinberg has already been cast as the show's lead, while we recently learned that Jodi Smith-Turner will also be part of the highly anticipated, extremely intriguing Disney+ series.

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era, and in the Star Wars Universe, an "acolyte" typically refers to those with Force abilities who learn from an experienced Sith Lord.

The trade notes that Jung-Jae has been highly sought after in Hollywood since his breakout role in Netflix's Squid Game. That record-breaking smash hit turned the previously unknown actor into a household name, and we're definitely intrigued to learn who he will be playing in the show.

Filming is expected to start in November, with cameras rolling through to next May. That's all the details we have for now, but it's no secret that the show will take us back to a period known as The High Republic era.

This was a time when the Jedi were at the height of their power, hundreds of years prior to The Phantom Menace. It's an era we've so far seen mostly explored in novels and comic books, though Lucasfilm has used those mediums to set the stage for this TV show and others.

Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is set to serve as Head Writer on The Acolyte, while a recent rumour pointed to Loki director Kate Herron helming at least some episodes of the show.

It's expected to premiere sometime in 2024, and we're hoping for some news during D23 this weekend (unfortunately, Disney+ Day is currently looking like something of a write-off).

What do you guys think about this casting news?

Lee Jung-Jae is and has been a huge star in South Korea. He’s even won the equivalent of a Best Actor Oscar in South Korea. I hate people saying that he is this new actor that was just discovered or has had this huge breakthrough. It’s just that those of us in the states whom haven’t been exposed to a lot of South Korean film are now discovering him. You should really re-word that title.
