It's hard to believe that half a decade has passed since Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released, and the movie continues to create heated discussions among fans.

For once, we can put that aside to enjoy some new behind-the-scenes photos from the movie shared by filmmaker Rian Johnson in the latest issue of Empire Magazine. Among the highlights are a terrific shot of actor Andy Serkis spending time with a Supreme Leader Snoke stand-in.

"This was a beautiful maquette that our creature department built for reference on set, because in the movie Snoke is entirely CG," Johnson remembers. "But we had this maquette there, so it was a very nice photo-op to have Andy with his character."

We also see Daisy Ridley attached to wires during that memorable sequence in Snoke's throne room, a confrontation between Finn (John Boyega) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), an adorable Porg puppet, and the Millennium Falcon. "At some point it started raining, and the entire crew huddled underneath the Falcon for shelter," he recalls. "It felt like the coolest camping trip of all time."

Johnson clearly put a lot of love into this movie, but his ideas for the Star Wars franchise didn't really gel with longtime fans. That was particularly the case with Luke Skywalker's portrayal, something the filmmaker admitted recently while looking back at his clashes with Mark Hamill on set.

The director also looked back at the "painful" negative backlash he received from fans, though confirmed he hopes to return to this Galaxy Far, Far Away in order to make that long-rumoured trilogy.
