In The Mandalorian's season 2 finale, Mark Hamill reprised the role of Luke Skywalker with the help of body double Max Lloyd-Jones and some clever VFX technology.

By the time The Book of Boba Fett rolled around, Lucasfilm has further mastered that and enlisted Graham Hamilton to play the iconic Jedi Knight alongside Hamill. Now, some newly surfaced behind-the-scenes photos highlight the uncanny resemblance between the two actors.

Many fans believe Disney could have gotten away without using Deepfake VFX when they had Hamilton on hand, though it's been made clear in recent years that Lucasfilm intends to move away from recasting legacy characters.

In this instance, not only was Hamilton used as a stand-in before having his face replaced, but clever A.I. was used to recreate Hamill's voice as it would have sounded when he played Luke in Return of the Jedi.

Despite that, Hamill was on set to perform his scenes and that was used as important reference material.

It's unclear whether we'll see more of Luke either on Disney+ or in Dave Filoni's upcoming Star Wars movie. The latter would be a good place to make use of the character again, especially as the likes of Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Ahsoka Tano will come together there to do battle with Grand Admiral Thrawn.

After The Last Jedi divided Star Wars fans, Jon Favreau and Filoni's take on Luke was welcomed and exactly what most had hoped to see from the sequel trilogy. It would be a shame for that not to be seen on an even grander stage in the years ahead.

Check out these newly surfaced photos below.
