Considering the fact he worked on TV shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, we're a little surprised Giancarlo Esposito is so loose-lipped when it comes to The Mandalorian spoilers!
The actor recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and was asked if and when we can expect to see him return as Moff Gideon in the show's ongoing third season. Remember, he suggested Gideon would escape the New Republic long before this latest batch of episodes was released, and that meant Esposito didn't shy away from teasing the villain's upcoming return!
"The odds are good you’re going to see me soon. That’s all I can say," he said. "The show is just a fantastic show to be on. They want the audience to be in anticipation, and wonder, and joy, and excitement. And so, I did it so long ago that I got to be honest with you, I can't even remember. I don't remember when I’m on."
Jokingly asked whether he remember what happened to Gideon the last time we saw him, Esposito laughed: "I sure do. I was in the hoosegow [prison] or on the way there...locked up and shuttered, which gives me a lot of time to think and to calculate what my next move might be."
That's actually a pretty intriguing hint about where Gideon's story is heading and it's become clear he had a backup plan should the New Republic ever capture him.
Elia Kane seems to be working for the Moff still, though we can't discount the possibility that they both report to a higher power...Grand Admiral Thrawn, for example.
Later in the interview (which you can watch in full below), Esposito appeared to confirm that we'll see him back as Gideon as soon as next Wednesday's episode, though we're pretty sure he was just kidding around with the host. Either way, we do expect the character to be a big part of the second half of this season of The Mandalorian...
