Will THE DARK KNIGHT And OPPENHEIMER Director Christopher Nolan Helm A STAR WARS Movie?

Christopher Nolan is no stranger to sci-fi after helming movies like Interstellar and Tenet, but could he head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away? He offered an intriguing response when asked about Star Wars...

Christopher Nolan has an exemplary track record as a filmmaker, and all signs point to Oppenheimer being a critical and commercial hit (achieving the latter is no easy feat with Barbie as competition).

In many respects, Nolan put himself on the map with The Dark Knight Trilogy and has since made a number of high-concept blockbusters, including sci-fi titles like Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet. However, there are those who would love to see him return to a known franchise.

During a recent interview with HugoDécrypte, the director was asked a series of "yes" or "no" questions, but there was only one he decided to say "Pass" to. That came when the director was quizzed on whether he would want to helm a Star Wars movie!

Should we start getting excited?

It's certainly possible that Nolan has had a conversation with Lucasfilm, and it's hard to think of any filmmaker who wouldn't want to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away should the opportunity present itself. The same could, of course, be said for James Bond.

During a separate chat with Happy Sad Confused, Nolan made his interest in 007 known.

"The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. It would be an amazing privilege to do one," he admitted. "At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints."

"You wouldn’t want to take on a film without being fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything - it’s a full package," Nolan continued. "You’d have to be really needed and wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character. Otherwise, I’m very happy to be first in line to see whatever they do."

Whether it's Star Wars or James Bond, we definitely can't wait to see what Nolan does next. He has, however, confirmed that he's pausing work on any and all upcoming projects until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes conclude.
