Following the shocking ending to the season 2 finale of Severance, fans are understandably anxious to know if there will be a third season to the hit sci-fi workplace drama. As of this writing, Apple TV+ has not officially announced a third season of the show, although there are expectations that the hit series will continue. As it turns out, not even the cast knows.

Actress Dichen Lachman, who plays Gemma, the wife of Lumon Industries employee Mark S., recently spoke with Rolling Stone AU/NZ about the series and the possibility of a third season.

“I haven’t heard anything or been told anything,” Lachman said. “I heard [executive producer Ben Stiller] was on a show… he just said they’re coming up with a plan.”

Lachman, of course, was referring to Stiller's appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s "New Heights". While on the podcast, Stiller, Severance series executive producer and director, teased, "Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.” Stiller also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that there is a writers room underway in Los Angeles, so it would seem that a third season is in the plans.

On the possibility of a third season of Severance, Lachman said, “I’m very hopeful and I hope we get to do it again."

“I certainly think that there’s an audience for it, so, fingers crossed," she continued.

There certainly is an audience. In fact, Severance is one of Apple TV+'s most successful series. In February, Severance surpassed Ted Lasso to become the streamer's most-watched series and according to Nielsen, Season 2 has racked up over 3 billion streaming minutes.

Season 2 ended with a jaw-dropping finale that saw Mark S. finally reach Gemma in the depths of Lumon and successfully help her escape. But when given the chance to join her, Mark (the innie) opted to instead stay inside Lumon and take off with Helly R. (Helena Eagan's innie). Already on the outside, the outie version of Gemma can only watch in despair as Mark's innie joins Helly. Hand in hand, the two innies run down the halls of Lumon. What comes next? No one quiten knows. Apparently not even the cast.

“You guys get to see the finished product which is awesome and the reaction is incredible,” Lachman said about the opportunity to be a part of the acclaimed show. “And then I’m lucky enough to be there and work with these extraordinary people. I feel very, very blessed.”

Severance Season 2 is now available to stream in its entirety on Apple TV+. So far there has been no official announcement by Apple about a third season.
