Severance's second season came to a thrilling end this week. Once again, the Apple TV+ series delivered a jaw-dropping finale that, while answering a few of our most pressing questions, left us burning with some new ones.
Episode 10, "Cold Harbor," featured some of the best moments in the series, including a conversation between Mark's Innie and Outie, a reunion with Mark and Gemma with multiple personalities, and a crucial decision made by Mark that will surely raise some eyebrows.
Suffice to say, the biggest question coming out of Severance's Season 2 finale is whether or not the hit Apple TV+ series will return for a third season. While Season 2 didn't quite leave us on the hook with a cliffhanger ending, it did end in a way that fans will undoubtedly want to see what happens next with Mark, Helly, and the rest of Lumon. Basically, we've still got questions and we need answers.
Will Severance return for a third season on Apple TV+?
As of Severance's Season 2 finale on March 20th, Apple TV+ had yet to officially renew the acclaimed sci-fi, workplace thriller for a third season. But despite the lack of official announcement, it's pretty much a sure thing.
For starters, Ben Stiller has already confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that there is a writers room underway in Los Angeles. We're not quite sure how far along they are in the pre-production process, but Stiller previously told Jason and Travis Kelce on their New Heights podcast, "The plan is not to [wait three years]… Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.”
Severance debuted in February 2022 with the first season ending on April 8th. Apple had actually renewed the series for a second season on April 6th, just a few days before the Season 1 finale aired. Now that Season 2 has officially come to an end, perhaps official confirmation on Season 3 will come shortly.
If Severance does return for a third season, Stiller assured fans we won't be waiting as long. Adding some context to the extended gap between Season 1 and 2, Stiller explained, “It took us a little bit to regroup, and the show, we shot for 186 days on Season 2. Editing takes a while, but thank goodness the audience was there when we came back."
Severance is one of the most successful series on Apple TV+. In February, Severance surpassed Ted Lasso to become the streamer's most-watched series. According to Nielsen, Season 2 has racked up over 3 billion streaming minutes.
