We probably should have seen this coming after the massive success of Squid Game, but Netflix has now announced that an actual survival reality show based on the hit South Korean dystopic drama series is being developed for the streaming service.
We're going to go ahead and assume these contestants won't have to ensure all of their competitors are dead in order to win (though you wouldn't bloody know these days), but they will be in with the chance of winning a serious amount of cash.
Like the fictional show, 456 players will compete for the chance to claim a whopping $4.56 million prize, which is reportedly the largest lump-sum cash prize in TV history.
“Squid Game took the world by storm with [director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s] captivating story and iconic imagery,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix vp of unscripted and documentary series. “We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest-ever cash prize at the end.”
The series will consist of 10 episodes. You can check out a teaser video below, and click here to fill out the application.:
