Audible has brought back what it calls its best deal of the year, and it lands right as a big month for fantasy and sci-fi audiobooks gets going. Amazon Prime members can sign up for four months of Audible at $0.99 a month and also get $20 in Audible credit. The offer ends this Monday (October 19th) at 11:59 PT, so there is not much time left to grab it.
How The Audible Deal Works
Audible's own offer page lists the deal as a Prime Member Exclusive and says it saves over 80%. The four months at $0.99 come to $3.96 total, compared to $35.96 at the regular price, and the $20 credit on top can go toward buying audiobooks outright. Once the four months are up, the membership auto renews at $8.99 a month, which is the regular price of the Standard plan. It can be canceled at any time, and Audible notes that terms apply, so it is worth making sure the deal shows up on your account before signing up.
Audible currently offers two main plans. Standard costs $8.99 a month and lets members pick one audiobook a month from the entire collection, which they can keep listening to for as long as they stay members. Premium costs $14.95 a month and gives one credit each month that buys a title to keep forever, even after canceling, along with access to the Plus Catalog of select Audible Originals, audiobooks, and podcasts. Audible also has a limited time offer of $99 for a full year of Premium, which works out to about $8.25 a month for anyone who wants credits that stay in their library.
New Fantasy And Sci-Fi Listens This Month
October has already been a big month for genre fans on Audible, with several major releases dropping last week (October 6th). The biggest is Brandon Sanderson's The Fires of December, a new Cosmere novel listed as part of his Secret Projects line and the Hoid's Travails series. It follows Hoid, the wandering storyteller who has popped up across the Cosmere for years, and the audiobook is narrated by longtime Sanderson reader Michael Kramer with a runtime of 12 hours and 42 minutes.
Stephen King and Peter Straub also have a new book out with Other Worlds Than These, the third Talisman novel, following The Talisman and Black House. The series follows Jack Sawyer and his travels between our world and the Territories. The audiobook is narrated by Patton Oswalt and King himself and runs about 22 hours and 45 minutes.
LitRPG fans got He Who Fights with Monsters 13 on the same day. The latest book from Shirtaloon and Travis Deverell is narrated by Heath Miller, who also narrated the earlier books, and comes in at 22 hours and 21 minutes.
Bigger Series To Catch Up On
For anyone looking for a longer series, Matt Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl is one of the most popular picks on Audible right now. Jeff Hays narrates the series, starting with the 13 hour and 31 minute first book. The newest entry, A Parade of Horribles, released back in May and runs 20 hours and 27 minutes, so there is plenty to get through before the next one.
Sanderson's Wind and Truth, the fifth book in The Stormlight Archive, is also a strong choice for a Standard member's monthly pick. It is narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer and runs 62 hours and 48 minutes, which makes it one of the longest single titles anyone could choose with the deal.
Suzanne Collins' Sunrise on the Reaping is another timely listen, with the film adaptation hitting theaters next month (November 20th). The audiobook follows a 16 year old Haymitch Abernathy during the Second Quarter Quell and is narrated by Jefferson White, who played Jimmy on Yellowstone. It runs 12 hours and 48 minutes, so it is easy to finish before the movie.
Getting The Most Out Of Four Months
With four months of Standard, members get four monthly picks, plus the $20 credit for anything they want to own outright. Someone could start The Fires of December right away, line up Other Worlds Than These for November, use the December pick on Sunrise on the Reaping or the first Dungeon Crawler Carl book, and save the long haul of Wind and Truth for the last month. Anyone who wants to keep their books for good after canceling should look at Premium instead, since Standard picks only stay available while the membership is active.
The deal is only showing as a Prime offer on Audible's page, so readers without Prime will want to check what appears on their own account before the deadline.
Are you using the deal to jump into Sanderson's new Hoid novel, or is Dungeon Crawler Carl finally getting a spot in your queue?
