Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is now playing in theaters, and the movie contains a tonne of Easter Eggs for and nods to the popular tabletop game that inspired the fantasy adventure.
However, there is also one reference that only fans of the '80s Dungeons and Dragons animated series would recognize!
Major spoilers follow.
Towards the end of Honor Among Thieves, our heroes are forced to compete in a lethal gauntlet full of traps and monsters, and as they prepare to take on their first challenge, we catch a glimpse of another group in the background.
Judging by their distinctive costumes, these guys are almost certainly based on Hank the Ranger, Eric the Cavalier, Diana the Acrobat, Presto the Magician, Sheila the Thief, and Bobby the Barbarian from the classic cartoon.
Whether they're supposed to be the actual characters themselves is unclear (they all appear to be quite a bit older - especially Bobby), but either way, this serves as a nice little homage to the cult series that really doesn't get enough love these days.
There's no sign of Venger, unfortunately, but if Honor Among Thieves does get a sequel, directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley should really consider him for the main villain!
