GAME OF THRONES Showrunners Reveal The One Thing They Would Change About The HBO Series

Fans would likely change a lot of things about Game of Thrones - particularly in that final season - but what about showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss? Well, there is something...

HBO's Game of Thrones became a worldwide phenomenon over the course of its 8-season run, with millions of people around the world tuning in every week to catch up with their favorite characters - and find out if they'd make it to the end credits.

As the show progressed, however, a lot of fans felt that the quality began to dip, and by the time the much-discussed final season rolled around, it's probably fair to say that the majority of viewers had some major issues with how the story was playing out.

The most heavily-criticized elements were Daenerys Targaryen's heel turn and subsequent death at the hands of Jon Snow and Bran Stark ending up on the Iron Throne, but there were numerous smaller issues with specific character arcs and the overall plot.

During a new interview with THR, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss were asked if there's anything they wish they'd done differently with the show. There was one thing... but you will never guess what it is.

“One thing I know I wish we could have done is there’s the character Mord the Jailer,” Benioff said. “It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back into it,” Weiss adds. “We always talked about doing it.”

“And we had the scene for it. There’s a scene set in a tavern. Was it Brienne or The Hound?” Weiss continued. “But we realized too late that Mord could have owned the tavern. We could have had that actor in the background acting exactly the way he did as a jailer, except now as a small-business owner. It was just such an obvious, no-brainer, day-after idea.”

If you don't recall Mord, he was the brutish jailer who tormented Tyrion in the Sky Cells in season one. "The Imp" promised to reward him if he took a message to Lady Arryn, which he did, and Tyrion tossed him a bag of gold as he was leaving.

While bringing Mord back for this scene does sound like it would have been fun, we find it hard to believe this would be the only thing Weiss and Benioff would change. Then again, we're hardly surprised that they didn't bring up anything more substantial.

You can check out the scene in question in the player below.

"Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for a millennia."
