The recent promo stills for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power gave fans hope that Amazon's prequel series might just do J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal novels (and Peter Jackson's acclaimed trilogy, for that matter) justice, and the first footage should assuage any remaining doubts!

The footage begins with a voice-over as we're treated to some sweeping shots from various locations around Middle Earth. From there, we get a glimpse of some of the main chaacters (including Galadriel, Elrond and Durin IV) and several creatures (a Troll.. or maybe even a proto-Balrog?).

Then, right at the end, there's a shot of tiny digits being taken by a much larger hand. Does this confirm that Hobbits will appear? Well, this is more likely to be a Harfoot - a distant relative of the Shire-folk.

Check out the trailer below and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Friday, September 2.

@bkmeijer - Me too, but this spills them too little. It seems to have like 4 or 5 POV characters so giving us a bite of 1 of their arcs wouldn't hurt.

That looks mediocre, uninspired and the painfully generic music isn't helping matters.
It doesn't help that the trailer has no indication of what the story could be, if they wanted to focus so much on Galadriel might as well have indicated to us what her journey here is about. CGI looks a bit dodgy, but that can get better before the premier.

@1stDalek - prefer a trailer not to spill the beans too much though
