Movie props remain a highly sought-after commodity among collectors, particularly when it comes to the Star Wars franchise. You need to have deep pockets if you hope to get your hands on a screen-used item, of course, and Han Solo's blaster from the original trilogy just sold for a jaw-dropping sum.
According to TMZ, the iconic weapon has picked up over $1 million at auction, no doubt making it the most prized piece in the unknown buyer's collection.
This prop is the last surviving model of the three used during the shooting of A New Hope and that only serves to make it more desirable. The blaster was sold at the Rock Island Auction Company for more than double the predicted price as the original sale estimate was around $400,000.
Instead, it picked up $1,057,500 (clearly, $1,058,000 was $500 too much for the others bidding on the item).
Among other items up for grabs were Darth Vader's suit, a number of lightsabers, and Boba Fett's helmet. Solo has always had a special place in the heart of fans, though, so we're not surprised it ended up being the biggest sale of the day. The blaster is iconic and A New Hope is where it all began for the Star Wars franchise.
In fact, it's still considered the best of all these movies among many fans, and anything from George Lucas and the cast's first trip into this Galaxy Far, Far Away always sells for big money.
This is a crazy number, though, and we certainly hope this lucky fan takes good care of the blaster...no matter how tempting it will probably be to run around his mansion with it shouting, "P-tew, p-tew!"
