The Mandalorian has expanded the Star Wars franchise in a big way, with The Book of Boba Fett, for example, offering even more insights into what became of the Galaxy following the Empire's defeat. While the former will continue this March with season 3, 2023 will also see the release of Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew, and another spin-off is now said to be on the way.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, the untitled series is currently in the works from franchise masterminds Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. There's no word on what it will be, though it's said to be in the early stages of development at this point.
We do have a codename, "Ghost Track 17," though that doesn't offer many clues!
There had been plans for a spin-off titled Rangers of the New Republic, with Gina Carano set to take centre stage as Cara Dune. The MMA fighter-turned-actress talked her way out of that one with some very controversial views shared on social media, and was subsequently fired from the Star Wars Universe.
During last year's Star Wars Celebration, Favreau strongly hinted that all these shows will eventually crossover as part of some sort of massive event, with many fans convinced that will be released on the big screen.
While this project is unlikely to be that, we're sure it will be another important chapter in this ever-expanding corner of the Galaxy. There's a huge number of existing characters who could take centre stage here - Bo-Katan Kryze instantly comes to mind - but odds are a newly created hero or villain might be the focus of the show as well.
The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ on March 1, while Lucasfilm has yet to announce release dates for Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew.
What are you hoping to see from this possible spin-off series?
