Night City is getting bigger on the tabletop. WeirdCo, the studio behind the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game, has announced Edgerunners: Burn Bright, the second set for its sci-fi card game, set to launch in hobby stores in Spring 2027.

The set was unveiled during WeirdCo's Creator Invitational livestream yesterday (October 20th) and is the game's first expansion following the base set, Welcome to Night City.

A Card Game Born From A Record-Breaking Kickstarter

The Cyberpunk TCG has quickly become one of the most talked-about tabletop launches of the year. It is based on the dystopian world that began with Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk tabletop RPG and grew into CD PROJEKT RED's Cyberpunk 2077, and it arrived off the back of a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Players are only now sitting down for their first games at Welcome to Night City Pre-release events at local game stores around the world.

WeirdCo co-founder Elliot Cook said the response so far has pushed the team to go even bigger. "The community reception to Cyberpunk TCG has been nothing short of incredible so far, so we want to deliver something even more exciting with Set 2," Cook said.

That makes the card game the latest chapter in a long history. Pondsmith's original Cyberpunk RPG debuted in 1988 from R. Talsorian Games, was followed by the hugely influential Cyberpunk 2020, and lives on today as Cyberpunk RED. CD PROJEKT RED's open-world game then brought Night City to a massive new audience, and the anime pushed it even further, so a collectible card game was a natural next step.

New Mechanics And Strategies

Burn Bright is built around Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the anime series created by CD PROJEKT RED and studio TRIGGER. According to WeirdCo, players will be able to add new Legends and Units to their existing crews, or build brand new crews made up of characters from the show. The set also promises new competitive strategies for taking down Rivals, plenty of new chrome, and brand new mechanics that will feature heavily in the set.

Those mechanics have not been detailed yet, but WeirdCo has a full schedule of art and card reveals planned for the months ahead, including the unveiling of the new mechanics. Previews and spoilers will come through the game's social channels and the upcoming Edgerunner Open Regional tournament broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube.

Some early artwork has already been shown, including a card of Adam Smasher titled Story Ends Here, a card called Caught in the Crossfire based on the anime's opening tragedy, and a Gear card for Maine's shotgun, Zhou, Maine's Answer.

Collectors Get A New Chase Rarity

On the collecting side, booster packs will feature anime-style artwork across foil and textured treatments, and WeirdCo has confirmed an all-new chase rarity that will be revealed later. Booster packs, booster displays, and Pre-release kits will be sold through specialist hobby stores.

As with the first set, Pre-release tournaments will run one week before the full retail release, giving players a chance to open packs early and play against other competitors. The set will launch in English and French, with Chinese language support to follow.

A Night City Story That Keeps Growing

The announcement arrived on the same day that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix, giving the franchise a big moment across screens and tables at once. The key art leans into that connection, showing Lucy walking toward a launch platform in David's jacket beneath the line "We're going to the moon, together."

Is a deeper competitive card game set in Night City something you want to dive into, or do you prefer your Cyberpunk fix from the tabletop RPG and the video game?
