Renegade Game Studios has launched a highly anticipated Kickstarter for Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and its companion game Unstoppable, and the campaign is already proving to be an unstoppable success. Within the first 24 hours, the project has raised over $4.9 million from more than 19,800 backers, smashing its modest $250,000 funding goal and showing just how hungry fans are for a faithful tabletop adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s bestselling LitRPG series.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl books have built a massive following for their blend of dark humor, high-stakes dungeon crawling, and a System AI narrator that feels equal parts helpful and malicious. Now, players will be able to step into the World Dungeon themselves with a full skill-based tabletop RPG and a solo/co-op card-crafting deck-builder, both set in the same chaotic, deadly universe.
The core of the campaign is a complete tabletop role-playing game that lets players create their own crawlers and survive the floors of the dungeon. The system emphasizes player choice and customization, offering more than 30 races (with additional ones unlocked after the third floor), a massive class roster with subclasses, and the ability to create entirely custom classes, races, and skills for near-infinite build possibilities.
Players can portray canon characters like Carl, Donut, Florin, or Prepotente, or roll up their own unique crawler with backgrounds, skills, and abilities tailored to their playstyle. Gameplay revolves around fighting mobs and bosses, crafting items, gaining followers, and navigating the dangers of the dungeon while dealing with the System AI, gods, factions, NPCs, and the ever-present pressure of the audience watching from Earth.
The RPG captures the series’ signature tone: equal parts grim survival and absurd comedy. Rules cover everything from dice-rolling mechanics and achievements to viewer entertainment scores, loot boxes, and the constant threat of the dungeon’s escalating challenges.
Physical components include a hefty 300+ page core rulebook covering floors 3–5 (with tutorial content for earlier floors in the starter set), a premium GM screen packed with reference tables, and a detailed character journal featuring expanded sheets, backstory prompts, and note-taking space. Backers can also grab pre-painted miniatures in themed assortments (Royal Court, Allies & Enemies, Mobs of Mordecai), custom dice sets, embroidered dice bags, and a fold-flat magnetic dice tray.
A Season Pass (included with higher tiers or available as an add-on) delivers six digital drops from November 2026 through October 2027, adding new neighborhoods, threats, bosses, NPCs, classes, races, pre-generated characters, skills, magic items, weapons, loot tables, and more.
Unstoppable: The Solo/Co-Op Deck-Builder
Bundled with the RPG campaign is Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a fast-paced card-crafting deck-builder designed for solo or cooperative play. It offers a different way to experience the dungeon crawl, focusing on building powerful combos and surviving wave after wave of enemies through clever deck construction.
Both games are fully licensed adaptations that stay true to the books’ tone, characters, and chaotic energy while delivering fresh gameplay experiences for tabletop fans.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl series has cultivated an extremely dedicated fanbase that has been clamoring for an official tabletop version. The Kickstarter’s explosive start reflects years of pent-up demand from readers who have been imagining their own crawlers since the first book dropped.
Renegade Game Studios has a strong track record with licensed tabletop games, and the involvement of the series’ creator Matt Dinniman (who is closely involved in the project) gives fans confidence that the adaptations will respect the source material while expanding it in meaningful ways.
The campaign also offers a Pay Over Time option for pledges of $150 or more, making the higher tiers more accessible. A special Retailer Pledge level is available for game stores looking to stock the game.
Pledge tiers range from the affordable Starter Set (which includes everything needed to begin playing the tutorial floors) up to collector-focused bundles loaded with miniatures, deluxe components, and the Season Pass. Digital backers can look forward to a VTT module optimized for platforms like Roll20 or Alchemy, complete with character sheets, classes, items, and a full monster roster.
Fulfillment for physical products is expected to begin after the campaign ends on May 15, 2026, with the first digital Season Pass drops scheduled for November 2026.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and Unstoppable represent a major expansion of the franchise into the tabletop space. With the campaign already more than 19 times funded and climbing, it is clear that fans are ready to crawl the dungeon themselves.
If you have ever wanted to roll up a character, loot a boss chest, and hear the System AI deliver a deadpan roast of your decisions, this is the project you have been waiting for. The Kickstarter runs through May 15, so there is still plenty of time to jump in and secure your copy along with all the stretch goals and unlocked content that will inevitably follow as funding continues to pour in.
