You don't see very many studios these days taking risks on big-budget sci-fi blockbusters that aren't based on an existing IP so director Gareth Edwards and 20th Century Fox certainly have our attention with their upcoming, sci-fi epic, The Creator. Check out a new teaser poster below.
Gareth Edwards is a British filmmaker who is known for his work in science fiction and fantasy films. His first feature film, Monsters (2010), was a low-budget independent film that was shot in just three weeks.
The film was a critical and commercial success, which Edwards used to springboard onto the epic MonsterVerse blockbuster Godzilla (2014), a reboot of the classic Japanese monster franchise.
Edwards' third film was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), a prequel to the original Star Wars film. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Edwards was praised for his direction and for his ability to create a film that felt like it belonged in the Star Wars universe.
Edwards is known for his naturalistic and intimate style of filmmaking. He often uses handheld cameras and natural lighting to create a sense of realism in his films. He is also known for his use of long takes and wide shots, which allow him to capture the scale and scope of his films.
The Creator arrives in theaters on September 29.
The cast includes John David Washington as Caleb, Gemma Chan as Ava, Ken Watanabe as Professor Seki, Sturgill Simpson as The Musician, Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Young Ava, and Allison Janney as Dr. Ellen Shaw.
Amid a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war—and mankind itself.
