AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER And EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE Score Best Picture Oscar Nominations

The Academy don't usually recognize films in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, but both Avatar: the Way of Water and Everything Everywhere All At Once picked up Best Picture Oscar nominations earlier today...

The 95th Academy Award nominations were announced early this morning, and for the first time since 2009 when the original Avatar was nominated alongside District 9, two sci-fi movies received Best Picture nods.

Both James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's Everything Everywhere All At Once will be vying for the highly-coveted statue when the Oscars ceremony airs on March 12.

Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever missed out in the Best Picture category (it was always a long shot, to be fair), but Angela Bassett did secure a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her turn as Queen Ramonda in Ryan Coogler's sequel.
