It was a big night for genre fans, with a delightfully weird indie sci-fi flick sweeping the board at the 95th annual Academy Awards.

A24's Everything Everywhere All At Once got off to a strong start with early Best Supporting Actor and Actress wins for Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis, and by the time the show had come to an end over three hours later, the film had racked up seven of the major gongs, including Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Director (Daniels), Best Original Screenplay (Daniels), Best Editing (Paul Rogers), and the big one, Best Picture.

There was a bit of snark when Curtis won, as many felt either Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) or fellow EEAAO star Stephanie Hsu would have been more deserving of Best Supporting Actress.

As expected, Brendan Fraser walked away with Best Actor for his performance in The Whale, and Guillermo del Toro's stunning adaptation of Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature.

The Banshees of Inisherin, Tár, The Fabelmans, Elvis, and Triangle of Sadness walked away with zero Oscars between them, despite most of them being heavily touted to pick up many of the top trophies.

Somewhat surprisingly, Germany's harrowing war film All Quiet on the Western Front won four Oscars (of nine nominations), for international feature, cinematography (James Friend), original score (Volker Bertelmann) and production design (Christian M. Goldbeck, Ernestine Hipper).
