Though we're not sure how much of a spoiler this really is after all of the online coverage, if you haven't seen Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny yet, we're about to ruin one of the movie's few surprises!

We find out very early on that Indy (Harrison Ford) separated from his wife Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) after their son Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) was killed in action in Vietnam (offscreen), but Marion returns to give their marriage another go at the end of the film.

Allen only appears in this one scene, but their emotional reunion is one of the highlights of Dial of Destiny.

While speaking to Variety, Allen revealed that her character was originally going to play a much bigger part in the story, but things changed when James Mangold signed on to direct and the script was reworked.

"When Steven [Spielberg] was going to direct the film, I think the scripts were more focused on an Indy/Marion story. But when Steven stepped aside and James came in, he started fresh with new writers and they just went in the direction they went in. They were going to tell a different story. That’s not to say that I had ever read a script that Steven was working on, because I hadn’t. But I just knew from conversations that we’d had that the ongoing story had involved Marion in a much bigger way than the story that they ended up with."

Though Allen admits to feeling "disappointed" that her role was reduced, she says she loved the scene she did have with Ford to close out the movie.

"I was deeply happy that Marion came back at least the end of their story. If this is indeed truly the last film of this particular group of films — if this is the last story with Harrison as Indy and me as Marion — I was profoundly happy that it didn’t end without them coming back together. That meant a lot to me, to feel like they were going to ride off in the sunset together."

Have you been to see the new Indiana Jones movie yet? If so, what did you think?

The movie also stars Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (Das Boot), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Oliver Richters (Black Widow), and Ethann Isidore (Mortel).

Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has worked on each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, once again composed the score.
