STAR TREK DISCOVERY Season 5 Trailer Introduces Major New Character And Promises No Dull Moments

Paramount+ has released an action-packed new trailer for Star Trek Discovery season 5, making it clear that there's never a dull moment in this franchise. Check that out along with some new casting additions!

"Never a dull moment."

This is the proclamation made by Sonequa Martin-Green's Captain Michael Burnham in the first trailer for Star Trek Discovery season 5. This sneak peek debuted during a panel for the show at New York Comic Con on Saturday, and there's plenty for fans of this franchise to unpack here.

The Umbrella Academy star Callum Keith Rennie, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Eve Harlow, and Shadowhunters' Elias Toufexis are on board for the Paramount+ series' next season. Rennie will play Starfleet Captain Rayner, a man it's said is struggling to transition from a time of war to a time of peace.

Harlow's Moll and Toufexis's L'ak, meanwhile, are said to be former couriers now on the other side of the law.

In Season 5, Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncover a mystery that sends them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well...dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.

With so much uncertainty surrounding this franchise's future on the big screen, it's good to have a TV show like this to be excited about. Paramount Pictures does have plans for another Star Trek movie, though the recent loss of director Matt Shakman (who has decided to helm Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios instead) has obviously set the project back somewhat.

Star Trek: Discovery's upcoming fifth season is currently in production in Toronto, Canada. We don't have a confirmed release date, but do know that it will premiere on Paramount+ in 2023.
