With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 ending last month, all eyes are now on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. As the only other live-action Star Trek project currently confirmed, there's a ton of anticipation and hype surrounding the upcoming series. And at New York Comic Con this week, we finally got to see the official trailer, along with its exact release date.
The 10-episode season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will premiere with two episodes on Thursday, January 15, exclusively on Paramount+. New episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays with the finale scheduled for Thursday, March 12th.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets "who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism." Set in the 32nd century, after the "Halcyon Days" of the Federation, the series follows the first class of Starfleet cadets at the academy, 120 years after the event. The latest trailer gives us our best look yet at the new series and the mystery, drama, and adventure that awaits.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy features a colorful cast of intriguing characters led by Sandro Rosta as Caleb Mir, an orphan with a troubled past and an unlikely Starfleet cadet; Karim Diané as Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon cadet who dreams of becoming a medical officer; Kerrice Brooks as Series Acclimation Mil, a.k.a. Sam, the first of her kind to ever attend Starfleet Academy; George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, an aspiring captain from a wealthy home world; and Bella Shepard as Genesis Lythe, an admiral's daughter determined to make her own name in Starfleet.
Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau serve as series co-showrunners and executive producers alongside executive producers Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. The first episode is written by Gaia Violo and directed by Alex Kurtzman.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy may be the only other live-action Star Trek series besides Strange New Worlds, which is already confirmed to be ending after its fifth season, but Paramount+ seemingly has big plans for the long-running franchise. In August, it was reported that Chris Parnell, former Apple TV+ creative executive and co-president of Sony Pictures TV Studios, joined Paramount+ as EVP of Originals with the intention of developing and producing the streamer's slate of original content. It was reported that Paramount+ is looking to further expand the Star Trek footprint, with Parnell playing a key role.
