Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been a hit series for Paramount+ and somewhat of a return to form for the franchise. But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and that includes this fan-favorite series.

Paramount+ announced today that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been greenlit for a fifth season which will, unfortunately, serve as the show's final season. It will also be a truncated season, consisting of only six episodes.

Fans are still awaiting the premiere of Season 3, which will debut this summer, but we can rest easy knowing that we have at least two more seasons left with Captain Christopher Pike at the helm.

"From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible," said executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman. "We're deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who've boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over."

In March, Paramount+ announced that production on Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had begun. Today's announcement confirms that filming on Season 5 will begin later this year.

It seems that Paramount+ is operating at warp speed when it comes to Strange New Worlds, which hopefully means the wait between seasons won't be nearly as long as we waited between Seasons 2 and 3 of the series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery that explores the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike during his command of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Set in the years before Captain Kirk takes the helm, the series follows Pike, Science Officer Spock, Number One, and the rest of the crew as they journey through the galaxy, discovering new worlds and encountering unknown civilizations.

In season three of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike (Anson Mount), as they face the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved, to new heights and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy and mystery with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.

Season 3 is scheduled to make its on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 17, in the United States. The first two episodes of the season will be immediately available, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.
