Paramount+ released today the official trailer for Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The trailer not only gives us an extended preview of this upcoming season, but also our first look at the live-action versions of characters Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler.

Both Mariner and Boimler are characters in the Paramount+ animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, and will be brought to life aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in this special crossover episode. The characters will be played by the same actors who voice them in the animated series; Tawny Newsom as Beckett Mariner and Jack Quad as Brad Boimler.

Not much is known about this special episode except that it will feature both live-action and animation. Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard actor and director Jonathan Frakes directed this episode.

As for the rest of the trailer, it’s filled with all sorts of intriguing scenes involving all our favorite characters, but perhaps the most surprising moment is a kiss between Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) and Spock (Ethan Peck), suggesting a continuation of their romantic storyline. The synopsis for Season 2 suggests a continued focus on character development, although the trailer suggests there won’t be any shortage of action either.

In Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, confronts increasingly dangerous stakes, explores uncharted territories and encounters new life and civilizations. The crew will also embark on personal journeys that will continue to test their resolve and redefine their destinies. Facing friends and enemies both new and familiar, their adventures will unfold in surprising ways never seen before on any Star Trek series.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere on June 15 exclusively on Paramount+. The series stars Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’An Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Joseph M’Benga. Season 2 also features the return of special guest star Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk as well as the new addition of Carol Kane in a recurring role as Pelia.
