At Star Wars Celebration Japan this weekend, Epic Games and Lucasfilm announced their next major Star Wars x Fortnite collaboration. While Star Wars has been featured in the battle royale game before, the upcoming Fortnite: Galactic Battle is the largest crossover to date.
Kicking off on May 2nd, the five-part event will feature its own Star Wars Battle Pass aith weekly gameplay content updates. The event will be split into five parts, taking place between May 2nd and June 7th. The Galactic Battle will culminate with a live end of season narrative event.
Here's the full schedule for Fortnite: Galactic Battle:
- May 2nd - Part 1: Imperial Takeover
- May 8th - Part 2: The Pull of the Force
- May 22nd - Part 3: Mandalorian Rising
- May 29th - Star Destroyer Bombardment
- June 7th - Death Star Sabotage
Presumably, each of these chapters will introduce new gameplay features and cosmetic tie-in content available through the Item Shop.
It's already been confirmed that Star Wars: Galactic Battle will introduce a new "Force Lightning" ability as well as X-Wing and Tie Fighter ships. In a surprising twist on the iconic Rebel starfighter, up to four people will be able to ride in the X-Wing.
Epic is keeping many of the event details a mystery still, but the teaser trailer provides a glimpse of some of the new outfits coming in the Star Wars Battle Pass. Emperor Palpatine will be making his debut in Fortnite along with the fan-favorite Darth Jar Jar.
Darth Jar Jar is a result of a wild fan creation that Lucasfilm has since embraced and even made official in the recent miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. Now he will also be Fortnite official, cementing his legacy in the popular battle royale game.
Two other outfits will “put a Star Wars spin on fan-favorite Fortnite original characters": Apprentice Evie in both a Jedi Evie and Sith Evie style, as well as a Wookie Team Leader look.
The trailer also confirms that Jedi Mastr Mace Windu will also be available through the in-game Item shop. He will likely be on rotation during one of the five parts along with other Star Wars-inspired cosmetics.
Fortnite: Galactic Battle comes about a year after Disney heavily invested into Fortnite owner Epic Games. The two companies have collaborated on numerous events that have seen characters from various Disney IP, including Star Wars and Marvel, join the battle royale world. There are also plans for Epic to create an entirely separate game that focuses solely on Disney properties, although we haven't seen or heard much about it since the initial announcement.
