Ahsoka Tano made her live-action debut in season 2 of The Mandalorian as the Jedi Din Djarin tracked down in an effort to return Grogu to his own kind. Ultimately, she pointed the bounty hunter in the direction of Luke Skywalker, and in the pages of The Art of The Mandalorian: Season 2 (via The Direct), Dave Filoni explained his approach to Ahsoka's story arc.
"There were a lot of debates about [Ahsoka Tano pointing the way to Luke Skywalker]," he explained. "And Jon and I went back and forth, because if [Ahsoka can't take Grogu], then who will? Taking care of the Child is not her destiny. That's not what I've been planning for her to do [laughs], so I can't change it up."
Of course, that episode of The Mandalorian offered a big hint about where Ahsoka's story is going by revealing the former Jedi was hunting down Grand Admiral Thrawn following the events of Star Wars Rebels. That's likely going to play out in Ahsoka as we finally learn what became of Ezra Bridger.
Elsewhere in the book, Filoni added that a big part of "The Jedi" was making sure they furthered Grogu's story as well (ultimately setting the stage for his eventual return to Din's side in The Book of Boba Fett). "[It] is interesting if Ahsoka's there along the way, not as somebody who takes this burden away from Mando but as somebody to say, 'You might be forgetting that this kid has a choice too. It's not just about you and your oath to your covert.'"
Keep checking back here for the latest on Ahsoka as we have it. Production is expected to begin a little later this year, and Ray Stevenson was recently cast as one of the show's villainous admirals (not Thrawn). However, it has previously been revealed that Lars Mikkelsen will reprise the role in live-action.
