Daisy Ridley Teases The Different STAR WARS Film That Will Hopefully Be A "New Adventure"

There's a lot riding on the upcoming Rey-focused Star Wars film which will pick up 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

It feels like the Star Wars franchise is heading towards a pivotal moment, at least on the film side. While several television projects have been met with fan-approval and gargantuan ratings, the latest trilogy is still very divisive, to say the least.

It seems like a bit of that pressure can be reflected in the latest comments from Rey Skywalker actress Daisy Ridley, who has some bubbly excitement when it comes to the

Ridley will reprise the character in a forthcoming film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, per an announcement made at Star Wars Celebration 2023 on April 7, 2023.

While speaking to Total Film to promote her upcoming release, Young Woman and the Sea, Ridley seemed to have some frenetic energy when discussing the project.

"It’s really strange. I think the whole thing will feel so different anyway with a totally different team," said Ridley, who is now 32. When she first started filming The Force Awakens back in April 2014, she was 22 and had a modest number of roles under her belt.

Ten years later, things are a lot different, as Ridley confirmed, "I’m in a very different place than I was. I’m probably going to be one of the adults, and initially, I was the youngest person on set, which is a weird feeling."

With no Star Wars Celebration slated for this year (the next convention is slated for 2025 in Japan), fans are hoping that more details on the project will be announced on May 4 aka Star Wars Day.

It's expected that filming on the project will kick off in late-2024 or early-2025 for a 2026 release date. In terms of the production, Ridley noted, "I would also hope that it’s a lot of the same crew."

"Obviously, many people shifted, but many people stayed the same through all three films, and there was something wonderful and comforting about that. But I don’t know. It all remains to be seen. I would hope it feels natural in some way, but also like – I don’t know – like it’s a new adventure. I’m hoping it’s sort of a bit of both."

Naturally, fans are curious about who might be returning along with Rey in the new film. Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron and John Boyega's Finn are presumably still out there in the galaxy, fighting the good fight.

Additionally, Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker could always show up as a Force Ghost!

I hate that this is referred to as the “Rey focused film.”

Um… She Had A Whole TRILOGY To Herself! lol.

Force Awakens was also definitely focused on her. Every other character is just a satellite orbiting around her conflict. To the point that Finn’s only character trait across three films is shouting “REEEEY!”

The other part of it that bugs me is Rey has already been spoiled. Like a child being spoiled with constant gifts. So she really doesn’t need another trilogy all to herself, does she?

To explain: I noticed this when my kids were playing Star Wars. There’s a bucket of Star Wars toys. One girl wanted to be a “Han Solo” type, so she grabs a Millenium Falcon, a Chewie stuffed animal, and a pistol. One boy wanted to be a “Luke Skywalker” type, he got an X-Wing, R2D2, and a Lightsaber. Last kid wanted to be the bad guy, a “Darth Vader,” he got a Tie Interceptor, a Stormtrooper, and a Red Lightsaber, maybe in his mind he can shoot lightning and other Dark Sode powers.

Now, what does Rey get when she comes to play? Why she gets everyone else’s toys taken away, and called her own. Rey gets the Falcon, and Chewie; she gets Luke’s Lightsaber, R2, and I think his X-Wing (crime, even his name); heck she even gets BB-8, which is supposed to be Poe’s droid; she gets all the good guy toys, but also the bad, she can shoot lightning and even has a red lightsaber.

To me it’s not that she’s a “Mary sue.” It’s that she has zero character, and has Nothing of her own to contribute. Instead, Lucasfilm leadership is hell bent on giving Rey every piece of sellable merchandise in vague hopes it’ll endear her to us. But she just looks like a ripoff artist to me. Wouldn’t surprise me if she meets Grogu ithis next trilogy and she takes him too, lol! Along with a Mandalorian jetpack of course 😏

@MG0019 - They were far too focused on a "strong powerful female lead" who somehow ended up having the personality of a shoe, instead of focusing on writing a decent story... case and point being the cluster F! of the last Jedi into the terrible attempt to correct it's course with the rise of "Skywalker"...

I'd be happy for her to play a part in a new trilogy, but she needs her own character development, a good story and the rest of the cast need to be decent well written characters too.
