At Star Wars Celebration 2025 today, video game publisher Electronic Arts finally revealed the mysterious Star Wars game developer Bit Reactor has been working. We've known since 2022 that the studio was developing a turn-based tactics game set in the Star Wars universe, but everything else has been a mystery up until today. This weekend's event finally pulled back the curtain, giving us our first look at Star Wars Zero Company.
Set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, Star Wars Zero Company follows an eclectic group of professionals for hire. Players take on the role of Hawks, a former Republic Officer, and must command "an elite squad of cunning operatives" as they take on "an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked."
Prior to today's reveal, Creative Director Greg Foertsch emphasized how important it was to blend the cinematic storytelling of the Star Wars franchise with the in-depth gameplay of a tactics game. The cinematic trailer certainly gives off Andor vibes with its dark and gritty narrative.
“Our vision for Star WarsZero Company is grounded in gameplay design pillars that weave in the immersive Star Wars galaxy with engaging turn-based tactics gameplay,” said Greg Foertsch, CEO and Creative Director at Bit Reactor. “It’s our aim to deliver a game with an original Star Wars story from the Clone Wars era that has meaningful outcomes from player choices, and deep turn-based tactical combat with an approachable and cinematic presentation.”
While much of what we've seen with the Clone Wars has revolved around large-scale warfare and massive world destruction, the conflict in Star Wars Zero Company is fought in the shadows .
"The war beneath the war," the voice in the trailer describes. "A war that is won with the right strategy. Surveillance, ciphers. Good old-fashioned sabotage."
All of this ties into the gameplay structure of Star Wars Zero Company. Players will embark on a campaign of tactical operations and investigations across the galaxy. In between missions, they'll develop their base of operations and gather intelligence through a network of informants.
“At Lucasfilm Games, we’re huge tactics fans and we have wanted to make a game like this for a long time,” said Douglas Reilly, GM & VP, Lucasfilm Games. “The best tactics games are all about meaningful choices, and we’re confident we have chosen the right squad in Bit Reactor to deliver a compelling and innovative title that is authentic to Star Wars.”
A big part of the strategy element of Star Wars Zero Company is customizing and tailoring your squad based on the information you've uncovered. As you play through the story, you'll meet a cast of "newly authored Star Wars characters" and recruit some of them to help form your squad. Recruited operatives can be persoanlized based on a range of original Star Wars character classes and species, and you can further customize their appearances, load-outs and abilities. Doing so will help you assemble the perfect team to take on high-stakes missions throughout the galaxy.
"With near-endless possibilities and high-stakes encounters that could change the fate of the galaxy, players will need intense preparation, adept strategy, and the right squad to succeed," Bit Reactor teased.
The reveal trailer below is mostly cinematic but towards the end, we get a brief look at the XCOM-inspired turn-based tactics gameplay Star Wars Zero Company will offer.
Star Wars Zero Company will be released in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
