Star Wars: Outlaws has quickly emerged as one of next year's most highly anticipated video games, and the team at Massive Entertainment has today offered a peek into the creation of this title in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
In the video below, we see exclusive behind-the-scenes footage showcasing how they've built iconic and new locations in this open-world experience.
We also get some background on how the time period and themes were selected, with Julian Gerighty, creative director, detailing how Outlaw’s premise influenced the worlds and elements created for the game. "Building the world of Star Wars Outlaws," he says, "[the] first thing we had to do was think of places that outlaws thrive: these hubs of scum and villainy."
It's clear Westerns were a big inspiration for Star Wars: Outlaws' tone, Lucasfilm's Steve Blank, director of franchise content and strategy noting, "We’ve only scratched the surface of what Star Wars Outlaws has to offer. There is so much more that you will get to embody and use and play when you become Kay Vess."
We're definitely excited to see how this all comes together, especially as an open-world Star Wars video game presents so many exciting possibilities for fans of the franchise.
"Experience the first-ever open-world Star Wars game," reads the synopsis, "set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new."
"Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted."
Star Wars: Outlaws is set to be released in 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
