STAR WARS REBELS Actor Freddie Prinze Jr. Reveals Who REALLY Directed ROGUE ONE's Darth Vader Scene

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was plagued by issues behind the scenes, hence why so much of what we saw in the trailers didn't end up in the movie itself.

Filmmaker Gareth Edwards is thought to have been replaced at some point - or at least made to work alongside another director - with Tony Gilroy likely at the helm of reshoots. We may never know what Rogue One originally looked like, but fans love the movie, particularly Darth Vader's last-minute rampage as he looked to retrieve those stolen Death Star plans.

During a recent podcast appearance, Star Wars Rebels actor Freddie Prinze Jr. (who voiced Kanan Jarrus in that animated series) claimed that Dave Filoni was actually behind the camera for that.

As you'll know, he's the creative force behind not only Rebels but The Clone Wars and shows like The Mandalorian and this year's spin-off series Ahsoka

"I don't know if people know this, maybe I'm not allowed to say this, but I don't care anymore," the actor said. "He directed that scene in Rogue One where - well, basically the whole end of the movie - where Vader comes through...and you see, basically...what's gonna happen in A New Hope. He directed all that."

These claims have already been disputed, with fans highlighting a 2022 Tweet from writer Gary Whitta in which he credits Edwards as the scene's director. The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez, meanwhile, says Rogue One's second unit director, Simon Crane, was responsible.

Ultimately, the truth may lie somewhere in the middle, with several people contributing to the standout sequence. Filoni, for example, may have just weighed in on how best to portray Vader's Force abilities on screen, with Crane helping the somewhat inexperienced Edwards put together a very complex scene.

We'll keep you updated on this story as it develops, but Prinze Jr.'s comments can be found in full below.
