The Mandalorian season 2 ended with the surprise announcement that a spin-off was in the works titled The Book of Boba Fett.
Fans were overjoyed by the news and excitement to see the bounty hunter's attempt at ruling over Tatooine quickly built among fans. While the Disney+ series wasn't necessarily a disappointment when it finally debuted, it also didn't quite manage to live up to expectations and made some questionable creative decisions over the course of those eight episodes.
Despite that, the hope is The Book of Boba Fett will eventually return, especially after the character's unexpected and unexplained absence in The Mandalorian's latest season.
Talking to Gizmodo, the show's director and executive producer Robert Rodriguez was asked if he knows what the future holds in store for Boba.
"I can’t say," the filmmaker responded bluntly. "I'm sworn to secrecy. I wish I could tell you. I know all the answers to what you’re asking, but I can’t say." That answer was to be expected, of course, but the fact he can't say anything is probably a more positive sign than Rodriguez saying there are no plans whatsoever for the anti-hero!
Reflecting on his experience working on The Book of Boba Fett, he added: "The sets were so real. Even the volume was so real that you felt like you were in Star Wars...to get to direct and edit and be part of the Star Wars universe just as an experience is one of my favorite experiences because it was just a dream come true."
In The Book of Boba Fett's post-credits scene, it was revealed that Cobb Vanth had survived his meeting with Cad Bane, a story thread we're sure will be picked up on sooner rather than later. For now, though, it appears that might be something we see play out in The Mandalorian season 4 instead!
All episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are now streaming on Disney+.
