The Book of Boba Fett received a mixed but mostly positive response, though there's been no word on plans for a second season. The finale certainly set the stage for the former bounty hunter's story to continue, but actor Temuera Morrison possibly shed some light on why we haven't heard anything about that during a recent convention appearance in Melbourne.
Asked about his involvement with Star Wars moving forward, the actor - who originally played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones before lending his likeness to that character's clones and son - suggested Lucasfilm is looking to curb spending on Disney+.
"I think there [are] a few changes going on. We also come under the big umbrella known as 'Disney' now too," Morrison explained. "So it’s one of the last few conversations we had in L.A . The conversation started like, 'Oh look, we’re having a few changes. We’re having a few cutbacks.'"
He didn't really elaborate beyond that but seemed to hint The Book of Boba Fett season 2 could be off the table for one simple reason: money.
"When you hear that at the other end of the line," Morrison added, "it’s no good trying to negotiate any more money that’s for sure. So we’ll see what happens."
Many fans were disappointed and surprised by Fett not having a role to play in The Mandalorian season 3, and that too may be down to the "cutbacks" mentioned by the actor.
If a second season of The Book of Boba Fett is indeed off the table, then we'll surely see Tatooine's new Daimyo in Dave Filoni's planned crossover movie, right? "It sounds a bit like Avengers if you ask me," the actor said of those plans. "I guess with [Jon Favreau’s] experience making Iron Man, subsequently the Marvel Universe exploded...it would be the logical thing for them to do."
Morrison certainly doesn't sound like he has a huge amount of love for the Star Wars franchise right now, though we're sure that will change under the right circumstances. Still, this definitely isn't the Boba Fett update we were hoping for!
