In The Mandalorian's first season, fans were left convinced that Boba Fett had returned when a mysterious figure approached the downed Fennec Shand. In season 2, we'd learn that it was indeed the iconic bounty hunter, and we then followed Fett's quest to regain his armour from Din Djarin.
The Book of Boba Fett elaborated on that, revealing both what came next for the character and what he was up to in the years following his escape from the Sarlacc Pit.
Lucasfilm character designer Brian Matyas has now shared some very early concept art from Fett's return in The Mandalorian. As you can see, he's completely unrecognisable, with his Tusken Raider gear switched out for a uniform that instantly brings back memories of what Max Von Sydow's Chief Justice Fargo donned in Judge Dredd opposite Sylvester Stallone.
According to the artist, these were "desert nomad costume explorations" for a take on Fett that was going to differ greatly from what ended up in The Mandalorian when the bounty hunter returned.
Matyas has also shared some designs for how Fett's armour would have been affected by the time he spent inside the Sarlacc. You can check all of that out in the Instagram posts below:
