THE MANDALORIAN: Dave Filoni Teases Upcoming Crossover Event And Bringing Animated Characters To Live-Action

Lucasfilm is rapidly fleshing out the years after Return of the Jedi, and Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni has now weighed in on the possibility of these "Mando-verse" stories building to a huge crossover...

The Mandalorian is arguably the best Star Wars story told during the Disney era of Lucasfilm, and while we know many of you will argue that Andor deserves that title, the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu are expanding this Galaxy in a significant way.

Rangers of the New Republic may have been scrapped, but this post-Return of the Jedi timeline is still expanding thanks to shows like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. With Grand Admiral Thrawn operating from the shadows and Moff Gideon's machinations clearly tied to the Emperor's eventual resurrection, it feels like we're building to...something.

Talking to The Wrap, Ahsoka showrunner addressed the possibility of a future "Mando-verse" crossover event.

"I look at that time period, which before 'The Force Awakens,' is around 30 years of time. When you look at the original trilogy, it’s a much less significant amount of time that those three movies take place in. And so, what I like is that we’re really building very slowly an ecosystem of characters and politics and events in the post-'Return of the Jedi' time period."

"And that may or may not expand in a bigger way as we add more shows to it and add more characters to it," Filoni continues. "The good thing is that we’re all talking creatively together about where these stories are all going."

"I think that the reality of there being a big event in this time period is very real, is all I would say to that. But yes, if Jon wanted to keep making 'Mandalorian' stories, as long as he does not get bumped off in said titanic event, then they, I suppose, could continue."

In the same interview, Filoni was asked how often he thinks about getting the animated characters he's created or worked on - Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze - into live-action.

"Very rarely. I know people think it’s the other way around, which is fascinating to me, but I think there’s two ways to look at that, which is that, yes, they were animated characters, but to me they’re just characters. And now I’m over here working in live-action. I’m comfortable with those characters, I know them, I like them and I like to see them around."

At the end of the day, I’ve been very happy with the ones that have gone over. There may or may not be more in Ahsoka,' if that’s your thing," Filoni teased. "If you’re excited about that, I’m just saying that one might have a few more, which makes sense, by the way. As you know, I wrote it. You can’t fault me there."

It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan, that's for sure, but with Jon Favreau saying he has no end in sight for The Mandalorian, we don't anticipate this big event taking place for a while yet.

When it does, we'd like to think it will play out on the big screen as that sounds like a guaranteed box office hit to us.
