BBC has released a first look at Jonathan Groff (The Matrix Resurrections) in the next season of Doctor Who playing a character previously described as "mysterious and exciting."
It appears we're getting a Bridgerton-inspired episode based on how Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor And Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday are dressed, and it's always fun to see the TARDIS head back in time. Who is the Duchess? Well, that obviously remains to be seen!
Talking about joining the cast, Groff recently said, "I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!"
A new promo for the upcoming 60th anniversary special has also been released and it sounds like a trailer could head our way as soon as this weekend. In the sneak peek, we catch a new glimpse of Neil Patrick Harris' villain, and it definitely looks like the returning Doctor is about to meet his match!
While Doctor Who has a loyal, undeniably passionate fanbase, it doesn't seem unfair to say that BBC's budget for the series has held it back from finding mainstream success. Now, with Disney+ involved as an international distributor for the show, as much as triple is expected to be spent from season to season, giving the franchise its best chance yet to reach a new audience.
Everything we've seen from Russell T Davies' return from the franchise suggests the beloved show has been given a fresh lick of paint, anyway, and casting Hollywood stars like Groff and Harris is bound to increase interest.
Doctor Who will return this November with three special episodes starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa's first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will then air over the holidays.
