Prior to last night's Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, BBC released a new trailer for Doctor Who that offers fans a thrilling glimpse of what to expect later this year when the TARDIS lands in time to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
The titles of each of the upcoming specials have also been revealed, and those are:
Special One: The Star Beast
Special Two: Wild Blue Yonder
Special Three: The Giggle
In this sneak peek, we see David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor, while Catherine Tate is also back as Donna Noble. Elsewhere in the teaser, Yasmin Finney makes an appearance, as does Neil Patrick Harris' mysterious villain as he shares a dance with the Doctor.
"The titles are just the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet," showrunner Russell T Davies says. "Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna and disaster about to be unleashed!"
Following these specials, Ncuti Gatwa will take over as the Fifteenth Doctor in season 14 where he'll be joined by Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday. We don't anticipate that being premiering until 2024, though Gatwa will likely make his debut in "The Giggle."
While Doctor Who has a loyal, undeniably passionate fanbase, it doesn't seem unfair to say that BBC's budget for the series has held it back to some extent. Now, with Disney+ involved as an international distributor for Doctor Who, as much as triple is expected to be spent from season to season, and if what we see here is any indication, the show is already benefitting.
