Lee, born two years before Quantum Leap made its original debut in 1989, and whose credits include Mozart in the Jungle and Kevn Can Go F**k Himself, will be playing Dr. Ben Seong, being described as a "spiritual successor" to Dr. Sam Beckett (Bakula's character). Besides being a world-renowned physicist, he is going to be a man of deep faith who will apparently be working on the next generation of the Quantum Leap project.
Not a remake of the original, this one will take place 30 years after the events of that show. There is seemingly going to be a distinct difference between this show and its progenitor in that Beckett would travel through time to different years within his lifespan, get involved with someone and help them through a particular problem (aided by the holographic Al Calavicci, as played by Dean Stockwell) before moving through time again. In the reboot, Seong will reportedly get trapped in the late 1980s with no idea of who he is or where he came from. Fans will undoubtedly hope that his stay in the 80s will only be a pitstop along the way to other decades.
Serving as executive producers are Martin Gero of Blindspot, Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt of La Brea, original series creator Donald Bellisario and that show's executive producer, Deborah Pratt.
There's no word on whether or not Bakula will be a part of the show, but undoubtedly. many can imagine him as a holographic Beckett who helps Seong out on his journey. Just a thought.
