As the current season of Silo draws to a suspenseful conclusion, you may be wondering if the sci-fi drama will continue for another season. Well, good news, Apple TV+ has renewed the series for a second season.
There were conflicting reports as to whether or not the series had already begun production on Season 2, but now it sounds like it's officially in development.
Silo is based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels which began in 2011 with the short story "Wool." As per Apple TV+'s description, Silo is "the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside."
The hook is that no one in the silo knows when or why it was built. They are led to believe that the outside world is uninhabitable and they don't know when they may be allowed to leave. But for those who have watched the series up until now, you already know something fishy is going on. Those who try to find out, typically face fatal consequences.
The series stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who unexpectedly becomes the new sheriff of the silo. Seeking answers about a loved one's murder, she "tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don't kill you, the truth will."
We are now eight episodes into the current season of Silo with two more remaining. There are still tons of questions and each answer we get seemingly leads to more questions. It's these unresolved mysteries that have viewers glued to the series each week. Apple TV+ notes in its press release that the series has grown in viewership week-to-week.
Season 1 of Silo is currently certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 87% among critics and audiences. The critics consensus reads:
With deft writing, awe-inspiring production design and the inestimable star power of Rebecca Ferguson, Silo is a mystery box well worth opening.
In addition to starring in the show, Rebecca Ferguson is also an executive producer. The series is created by Emmy-nominated screenwriter Graham Yost, who also serves as showrunner.
With Season 2 already confirmed, we can now rest easy that any unresolved questions left over from Season 1 will hopefully be answered. With the ongoing writers strike, any production on Season 2 might take a while to begin.
