While there have been few updates on the filming of Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Deadline has offered a brief but exciting one. The outlet reports that actor Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Aegon “Egg” Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel, has signed with WME for representation, and confirmed that Season 2 is expected to wrap filming in June.
"Ansell is currently shooting the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with filming set to wrap in June," the publication reports.
HBO renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season in November 2025, before the series even premiered its first season. Production on Season 2 began in December with filming kicking off the following month.
Accordign to HBO CEO Casey Bloys, the goal is to roll out new seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms annually, with Season 2 expected to premiere in 2027.
"We are cutting some scenes together now, and the directors are seeing some of it, so it feels nice to see [season two] slowly come together," showrunner Ira Parker told AV Club in early February. "The show coming out at the same time as we work on it has been a blessing in many ways. It allows you to do what Dunk does by putting one foot in front of the other to focus on the work instead of just focusing on the response."
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. Set in the same universe as Game of Thrones, about a century before its events, the three stories follow the adventures of Ser Duncan and Egg, who is revealed to be Aegon V Targaryen, the future King of Westeros.
Season 1 was based on The Hedge Knight novella, while Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword, which Parker admits is his favorite installment in Martin's trilogy.
"We’re now getting into The Sworn Sword, which is my favorite novella in many ways, with Rohanne Webber or the Red Widow, Ser Bennis, and Ser Eustace, who are these classic characters," Parker told AV Club.
HBO recently announced that Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Politician) will play Lady Rohanne of Coldmoat, Babou Ceesay (Invasion) will portray Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Peter Mullan (Ozark, Westworld, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) will take on the role of Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast in the Reach.
A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
We still don't have an exact premiere date for Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but knowing when filming is expected to wrap does bode well for the 2027 timeline that HBO has put forth.
