The Hunger Games franchise grossed just shy of $3 billion at the worldwide box office, so the fact Lionsgate is looking to revive the franchise with a prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is hardly a surprise.
That promises to take fans decades into the past to learn how Coriolanus Snow descended into villainy as the President who eventually took aim at Katniss Everdeen.
Chances are that movie will be another box office hit, but an even bigger draw would surely be for Jennifer Lawrence to return as Katniss for a sequel to those first four instalments. Well, that's something the X-Men star sounds surprisingly open to.
Talking to Variety, the actress responded, "Oh, my God - totally!" when asked if she'd be open to reprising the role. Lawrence would then add, "If Katniss ever could ever come back into my life, 100 percent."
She first played Katniss in 2012's The Hunger Games and bid farewell to the role in 2015's grim final chapter, Mockingjay - Part 2.
Like Suzanne Collins' books, that ended with the lead hero and Peeta living a quiet post-war life together, though it was clear Katniss was haunted by her past. While the Games effectively ended after Snow's defeat, there are no doubt plenty more stories which could be told in this world.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12.
But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favour. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
The movie is set to be released on November 17.
