Over the weekend, news broke that Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher after season 3. Liam Hemsworth is set to take over from him in a planned fourth season, so the Superman actor's time as Geralt of Rivia is nearing its end.
Recently, there have been rumours that HBO is looking to enlist Cavill for a role in season 2 of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and his departure from The Witcher may lend some weight to those reports. Now, the actor himself has commented on the rumor.
Talking to Josh Horowitz prior to the news that his time in The Witcher is over, Cavill said, "To be fair, when I was watching House of the Dragon, I was like, 'I feel like a lot of these guys could make really good Witchers...' I think it would be cool to be in Westeros, I really do. I don't think there's a place for me in there, though."
At the same time we first heard about Cavill's possible involvement in the show, it was also said that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen could join him.
However, she's recently stated, "I don't know how rumors like that get started and people think they're legitimate." Olsen also said she would be open to taking a trip to Westeros, though, so perhaps House of the Dragon's showrunners will do what they can to make this happen as season 2 gears up for production.
While Olsen remains busy with her MCU commitments, Cavill recently signed up to return as Superman in the DCU. Despite that, we're sure he could squeeze in another big fantasy franchise by joining the popular Game of Thrones prequel series.
The entire first season of House of the Dragon is now available to watch on HBO and HBO Max, while season 2 is believed to be taking aim at a 2024 premiere.
