There was a time when Ahsoka was likely going to be a direct animated follow-up to Star Wars Rebels, but Disney+ has given Dave Filoni the chance to continue Ahsoka Tano's story in live-action alongside actress Rosario Dawson.

In the series, the Ghost's crew will reunite to finally find the missing Ezra Bridger...and put an end to Grand Admiral Thrawn's machinations once and for all. We're expecting some big twists and turns along the way, with it looking likely this is all leading to an eventual adaptation of "Heir to the Empire."

Over the past year or so, there have been a lot of huge rumours about Ahsoka. Now, we've rounded up the biggest to bring you a better idea of what may be on the way, whether it's massive cameos, plans to explore a new side of this Galaxy, and event Grand Admiral Thrawn's master plan!

Take a look through this breakdown by clicking the "Next" button below but be warned that SPOILERS follow!

8. Luke Skywalker Returns

After first appearing in The Mandalorian, Dawson's Ahsoka would later show up in The Book of Boba Fett for her first on-screen meeting with Luke Skywalker.

That was a huge moment for Star Wars fans and Filoni has since suggested that the first time they crossed paths could be something he explores down the line. The question is, might we see that happen in Ahsoka? Well, rumour has it Mark Hamill will indeed return as Luke, though we know nothing of his role beyond that.

A real team-up between the two heroes (lightsabers and all) would break the interview, while it would also be fun to see Luke cross paths with some of the other Rebel heroes who once boarded the Ghost and fought Grand Admiral Thrawn. If Mara Jade is ever going to show up, then this series makes the most sense!

7. Where Is Thrawn?

Apparently, when we catch up with Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka, it will be revealed that they both spent time in "The New Beyond" or "New Space" following their disappearance in Star Wars Rebels.

A completely new and unexplored area of the Star Wars Universe, it reportedly uses and views the Force much differently from what we've grown used to. In fact, the insinuation here is that any magic users we've seen up until this point are likely to have hailed from there.

This could shake the franchise's current canon up in a big way, and while Ezra may have used this opportunity to explore the Force in new ways (we've heard he'll swap a lightsaber for martial arts), Thrawn has likely exploited his new surroundings for sinister means.

6. The Young Ahsoka Tano

Following reports the series will feature "flashbacks" (it's complicated: you can read more below) to key moments in the title character's life, it was claimed a younger actress has enlisted to take Rosario Dawson's place as the Padawan Ahsoka Tano.

While not confirmed, that's believed to be House of the Dragon star Savannah Steyn. She played Lady Laena Velaryon - one of them, at least - in the HBO series, and counts A Discovery of Witches and Crawl among her other credits.

One big question right now is whether we'll hear Steyn's voice; after all, it would make sense - and be welcomed by fans - for The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels actress Ashley Eckstein to reprise the role and voice Ahsoka with ADR.

5. A Deadly New Class Of Stormtroopers

In The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren visited a mysterious ape-like armourer who repaired his mask with what we'd later learn was Sarrasssian iron. As a result, it was covered in red lines, a cool aesthetic (and a smart way to sell more action figures).

With Stormtroopers in short supply after the Empire's defeat, it's said that those who report to Grand Admiral Thrawn will be decked out in rebuilt and reforged armour that is covered in gold or yellow "cracks" and "veins."

Apparently, this armour has been reforged by the Nightsisters, with the prevailing theory being that the Stormtroopers wearing it are, in fact, dead. A zombie army led by a Thrawn who lost his mind in the far reaches of space sounds like one heck of a challenge for Ahsoka's heroes.

4. Captain Rex Is Back

Temuera Morrison recently shared his disappointment over the fact Lucasfilm didn't bring him back for The Mandalorian season 3 and seemed a tad disgruntled about Din Djarin's prominent role in The Book of Boba Fett.

Despite those remarks, it appears the actor has returned to a Galaxy Far, Far Away to shoot a supporting role in this August's Ahsoka. As we'd hoped, Morrison will supposedly play Captain Rex in the Disney+ series. Right now, it's unclear whether the soldier will appear in flashbacks or during the present day.

Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Rex was Anakin Skywalker's first-in-command and a friend to many of the Jedi. Rex's inhibitor chip was removed, meaning he was able to escape the Order 66 programming which brainwashed so many of his brothers.

3. An Ezra Bridger Spin-Off

In Ahsoka, Ezra Bridger will be played by Eman Esfandi, and there's a lot of excitement surrounding the story of where he's been...and where the hero is going.

All signs point to him being a key part of Lucasfilm's plans as one rumour claims Esfandi has signed up to star in his own live-action TV show. It's said this will very much be Ezra's story, not Star Wars Rebels 2.0. We're sure some of those characters will appear, but there must be big plans in place for the Jedi beyond Ahsoka.

If he really has found a new way to master the Force, then perhaps we'll learn more about that and the Jedi's importance to the wider Galaxy as we build to Filoni's planned movie. With any luck, this will shed new light on the First Order's rise and Supreme Leader Snoke's creation.

2. Return To Mustafar

Ahsoka reportedly features a recreation of the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker from Revenge of the Sith.

However, in that sequence, Ahsoka Tano will take Obi-Wan's, revealing what would have happened had she confronted her former Master on Mustafar. The scene supposedly plays out inside the World Between Worlds, a mystical plane within the Force linking all moments in time together.

Hayden Christensen will be in the suit, while we're also anticipating seeing a live-action recreation of Ahsoka's battle with Darth Vader from Star Wars Rebels. That will be epic, of course, though the hope is the aforementioned flashbacks mean we'll also see Anakin in his Clone Wars armour!

1. A Possible Cliffhanger Ending

While we know the Empire eventually becomes the First Order (suggesting Thrawn's quest to rule the Galaxy is both a success and failure), how we get to that point is a story fans are hoping will play out on Disney+ and in theaters over the next few years.

Ahsoka is said to be akin to The Empire Strikes Back in the Mando-verse, with the good guys failing to overcome the show's big bad by the time all is said and done. In the finale, we'll likely see Thrawn returning to the Galaxy, exiting his ship and looking over at the forces he will use to destroy the New Republic.

Among them will be the Nightsisters, fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, resurrected Stormtroopers, and "his gold-faced bodyguard named Enoch." It's at this point Thrawn supposedly revels in his return and promises to unleash a reckoning, setting the stage for the war to come...
