In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we were introduced to Jyn Erso, the daughter of Galen Erso, one of the key scientists who was forced to work on "Project Stardust," a.k.a. the Death Star.
After being recruited by Cassian Andor, Jyn helped lead the Rebellion which culminated with them stealing the Death Star plans (before being killed by the very weapon they'd help one day destroy).
Recently, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy confirmed the final few episodes of the series' second season will play out across the few days prior to the events of Rogue One. Could that mean Felicity Jones is given the chance to reprise her Star Wars role in the Disney+ series?
"I'm afraid to say I won't be," the actress recently told BBC's The One Show (via ComicBook.com) when asked about a possible return in Andor, "but I still have hope for Jyn Erso at some point to make a comeback. But no, sadly I won't be."
"I actually wouldn't want to repeat any of [my characters]," Jones later added. "It's so funny - once you've sort of done it, and you've kind of put them to bed, then you're ready for the next challenge."
Gilroy has said on multiple occasions that Andor will end with Cassian's first scene in Rogue One, so it wouldn't make a huge amount of sense for Jyn to make an appearance. There's definitely room to explore her story before she became a Rebel, but whether that's something Lucasfilm is actually interested in is hard to say.
We recently spoke with Rogue One star Ben Mendelsohn about the possibility of him returning as Director Krennic in Andor season 2. He got a little cagey and responded, "Andor 2? Krennic? I don’t think so. I don’t know. If they ask me, I’d pick up. I’d certainly do it, yeah."
Andor season 2 premieres on Disney+ sometime in August 2024.
