While The Book of Boba Fett wasn't quite up there with The Mandalorian in terms of its overall quality, there was still lots about the series we could appreciate. Among its standout moments was the live-action debut of Cad Bane, with The Clone Wars star Corey Burton returning to lend his voice to the sinister bounty hunter.
In a long overdue confrontation with Boba Fett, Bane was finally taken out, ending his story in a suitably violent fashion.
Of course, with Lucasfilm currently jumping all over the Star Wars timeline, there's always a chance he could return, right? Talking to ComicBook.com, Burton discussed the possibility of reprising the role in a live-action setting.
"Well, as I was saying to Dave [Filoni] from the very start, where the character was always in peril and apparently may have met an end in the original Clone Wars series, a good villain never dies," he teased. "I always hope. I don’t know, I have no idea."
"Dave doesn’t tell me anything, he wouldn’t, and I don’t want to know. It would be fantastic, but I really don’t have any idea. So as Cad would say, 'Yeah, don’t be too sure of anything.'"
That's pretty much the answer we expected, and seeing as Burton wasn't the one transformed into Bane on set, he would probably be the last to know. The bounty hunter's death was a definitive one, though there's no reason his unique talents can't be unleashed in stories set before then.
As for the villain's rivalry with Fett, the actor said, "There’s a great rivalry between them because Cad Bane is almost a supernatural, in a way superhuman, not human, bounty hunter. And of course, he wants to be always the dominant bounty hunter. So Boba is his rival, and it’s like, ‘No, no, no, no. Yeah, you’re not going to get me.’"
Cad Bane's leap from animation to live-action remains a highlight from this era of Star Wars storytelling, and there are still plenty of great characters from The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels we anticipate seeing join him down the line. In fact, many from the latter series will likely be seen in Ahsoka next year.
