Star Wars: New Jedi Order (that's the rumoured title, anyway) is expected to arrive in theaters in 2026 or 2027, with Daisy Ridley reprising her Star Wars sequel trilogy role as Rey Skywalker. Or Palpatine. It's best not to give it too much thought.

There's a great deal of excitement to see where Rey's story goes next and, in an interview with Screen Rant, Ridley hinted at some unexpected changes for her character in a movie rumoured to serve as "Episode X."

"I didn't feel there was a stone left uncovered," she started. "So, I felt very satisfied. I started that at 21, and I'm now 31. I feel different. It will be interesting coming in, personally, in a different zone."

"And, also, in those intervening years from the last film, what has happened and where has that led Rey to?"

That's the big question right now, though we're also curious about how many characters we'll see from the sequels. Comments from Oscar Isaac and John Boyega have suggested they have zero interest in returning to Star Wars, but would Ridley like to reunite with the latter to explore Finn's role as a Jedi?

"That is above my pay grade," she said with a laugh. "I would love to see that, but that is not a decision for me."

During a panel at this Sunday's SXSW event in Austin, Ridley also talked openly about the impact her role as Rey had on her career and what that meant when she said goodbye to Rey when The Rise of Skywalker was released in 2019.

"There weren’t that many offers coming in," she admitted. "It’s not that there wasn’t any. I remember finishing and thinking, 'Oh, it’s quiet and strange.' [COVID] was a very strange time to sit with the quiet and, honestly, grieving a time of my life."

However, since then, Ridley says things have improved. "It’s been really busy and amazing and I’ve got to do so many different things for so many different people. It has been a different exploration of myself and my career."

Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be at the helm and, as noted, Ridley will reprise her role as Rey, now a Jedi Master looking to create a new Jedi Order while attempting to combat the dark forces that rise up to stop her. What those are remains to be seen.

What are you hoping to see from the Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie?
