Unveiled on his production website, it seems no one in Hollywood knew Steve Soderbergh was working on Command Z until he unveiled the first trailer.
The film will see a scientist send three employees back in time to present-day 2023 to change the course of history and avert a mysterious cataclysm.
According to the accompanying blog post for the project's unveiling, the series has a total runtime of 90 minutes, split across 8 episodes of varying length. It seems even Sodergergh is unsure whether it's an actual television series or simply a film split into 8 parts.
Soderbergh's projects are often character-driven, with well-developed protagonists and antagonists. He is particularly interested in exploring the inner lives of his characters, and he often uses close-ups and long takes to get inside their heads. As evidenced in the first trailer, Cera and his band of misfits will literally be entering the minds of unsuspecting hosts.
Soderbergh's directorial style is constantly evolving, but his films always retain a sense of his unique vision. He is a master of character, narrative, and visual style, and his films are always thought-provoking and entertaining.
Command Z will premiere July 17 and will be available on Soderbergh’s website, Extension765.com.
