Doctor Who's 60th-anniversary specials are fast approaching, but will David Tennant's Doctor face off with a familiar foe?
Speculation is currently running rampant that we'll see the iconic character square off with John Simm's Master. This comes after a closer look at the Fourteenth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver was revealed in a recent issue of Doctor Who Magazine, with many eagle-eyed fans pointing out it's drawn inspiration from the Master's laser screwdriver.
It's worth noting the villain has a habit of appearing in celebratory episodes and while it hasn't been that long since we saw Sacha Dhawan's Master, it wouldn't be unprecedented for a return to happen this quickly (there's currently no word on casting or whether we'd see a new or returning actor).
The similarity alone between their respective screwdrivers is noteworthy, though, and we wouldn't be surprised if this will somehow tie into whatever is next for Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor.
As for Tennant, he will take centre stage this holiday season over the course of three specials titled "The Star Beast," "Wild Blue Yonder," and "The Giggle."
In those, the actor reprises perhaps his most famous role, though obviously not as the Tenth Doctor. He'll also be joined by Catherine Tate's Donna Noble, a companion we never expected to return given what could happen if they're once again face-to-face.
"The Doctor's been three different people in the meantime, so I’m not necessarily the same version of the Doctor that I was before," Tennant recently teased. "I’m not the Tenth Doctor now, I’m the Fourteenth. Well, strictly speaking we don’t know what the actual number is anymore, do we?"
Joining him in these specials is Neil Patrick Harris as a villain thought to be The Toymaker, Yasmin Finney as Rose (a name which has generated a lot of speculation online), Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, and the late Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott.
