To this day, the original 1989 Quantum Leap television show retains its fair share of fans as the show's cast and crew are popular staples on the fan convention circuit.
NBC was hoping that a passionate fan base would turn into high ratings for a modern sequel series but news has come down that the network has decided to cancel the show.
The two-hour Season 2 finale which aired on Feb. 20 will mark the final installment of the show unless it gets picked up by another network/streamer.
The announcement has left many quite upset because there were obvious setups in the finale for a third season that may now never happen.
On the show's cancelation, series star Raymond Lee shared, "Just wanted to say a thank you to our Ql fans and those who’ve tuned in. Your support was felt and always warmly received. You all have made it the ride of a lifetime.”
He added, “We’re so proud of the show we made and more proud of the stories we got to tell. And selfishly for me I got to make some really awesome friends along the way."
"If and when another group gets a hold of the accelerator and its capabilities, may they find us floating in time, still striving to put right what once went wrong."
In the revival, a new crew must begin the mysterious time-traveling experiment 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett entered the accelerator and vanished.
Dr. Ben Song, an exceptionally gifted scientist who strives to unravel the mystery of the Quantum Leap project and return Sam to his family, is the team's leader.
The follow-up series will also delve into the moral and ethical ramifications of time travel, in addition to the human sacrifices that the group must make to complete their task.
While original Sam Beckett actor Scott Bakula has only appeared in the show using archival footage, Bakula previously told fans on social media that he won't be filming any new scenes for the show.
Fans were always hopeful that Bakula would reconsider and that Sam would finally get to go home but with the revival's cancelation, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
